About us?

Experimentalphotofestival is a non-profit cultural association based in Barcelona, Spain, whose objective is to create, promote and disseminate experimental photography in all its forms and throughout the world. It is responsible for the organization of the Experimental Photo Festival and the Ágora, school of experimentation. More information here

Who can participate in the Experimental Photo Festival 2024?
​
The Experimental Photo Festival is open to photographers of all levels (consolidated or beginners), techniques (analogue and digital), and countries and languages, interested in any and all aspects of experimental photography. The general registrations are open now! It gives you the right to participate in workshops and conferences. At our festival, everyone can show their work, doing workshops or conferences or participating in exhibitions. Now you can know the Invited Artists and the Program and, during April, you will be able to know the exhibitions that we will do in Barcelona. If you can't come, don't worry! In June, we will present the virtual festival where you can see all the conferences and do exclusive online workshops.

When and where will it take place?
​
The festival begins on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 7 p.m. with the opening of an exhibition. On Wednesday, July 24, and the following days, at 9:30 a.m. at Pati Llimona Civic Center, accreditations begin and at 10 a.m. the workshops, conferences and debate spaces until 7 p.m. Every day at night we will inaugurate exhibitions and do various cultural activities between the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya and other spaces in the city. The festival ends on Sunday night the 28 with a picnic on the beach. The complete program of the festival can be found here.

Is registration the same for all participants?
​
Yes. All participants who want to do workshops must pay the general registration that gives access to the festival activities and the number of workshops that best suit their economic situation. Workshops cannot be purchased without having previously completed general registration for the festival. The price does not include transfer, food, or accommodation. Access to all the conferences and exhibition openings is free.

Is there an official accommodation?
​
Yes. One of the things that we enjoy the most about the Experimental Photo Festival is the camaraderie and horizontality in the exchanges that take place between all the members of our community. To enhance this feeling, we have coordinated with the University of Barcelona to have 300 beds in a large student residence where we can all be together. This year our association will manage the residence and that will reduce the price of accommodation. More information here

Can I send photos or a project that has already been presented or even published?
​
Yes. The festival aims to disseminate and share the works of experimental photographers at different times in their careers. During the month of December 2023, we have an open call to present proposals for individual exhibitions.

Is it possible to sell products?
​
Yes, but only if they are their own productions. During the festival, we will have an Art Swap Space where all the participants and artists will be able to sell small objects, such as books, films, fanzines, cameras or postcards in a space of 20x30 centimetres, without any cost or commission to pay. The only thing that is asked of them is that the products have a single price to simplify the payment and the reimbursement of the money. During the month of June, a call will be opened for you to propose products to sell and we will make a selection according to the type so that it is as varied as possible. Everyone must pick up their products before Sunday, July 28 at 6:00 p.m. Subsequently, the organization is not responsible for sending the material and all the expenses generated will be borne by the artist.

What is the official language?
​
The contents are taught in English or Spanish depending on the person carrying out the activity. The organization is very aware that the program includes activities in both languages during the five days of the festival. As there are participants from more than thirty countries, the language of personal exchanges is usually English and Spanish.

How are the activities financed?
​
As can be seen on our page about transparency, the festival is financed with money from registrations and public subsidies that allow us to cover the costs of free activities. You can collaborate by inviting people to participate in the face-to-face or online festival, the Agora or buying our products.

Our festival has been built on the basis of equality and respect among all people. We believe in diversity as a form of activism and we will not tolerate any attitude that goes against equality, diversity and respect for human rights. We work every day so that this festival is a meeting space where diverse communities (LGBTIQ+) feel at home and can participate learning and teaching from their experience. From the festival we contribute to the construction of a conscious, diverse and egalitarian society, we will not support any macho, homo/lesbo/transphobic, sexist and/or racist attitude.
