Christina Z. Anderson

Christina Z. Anderson is a photographer and educator based in the United States whose work focuses on the contemporary reinterpretation of vanitas through a wide range of alternative photographic processes, including gum and casein bichromate, cyanotype, salted paper, chrysotype, platinum-palladium, chemigrams, chromo, mordançage, and lumen prints, often in combination. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in more than 130 exhibitions and has been featured in over 90 publications. Her books, which have sold in more than 40 countries, include: Platinum-Palladium Printing: A Step-by-Step Manual of the Develop-Out Process; The Experimental Darkroom: Contemporary Uses of Traditional Black & White Photographic Materials; Digital Negatives with QuadToneRIP: Demystifying QTR for Photographers and Printmakers (co-authored with Ron Reeder); Cyanotype: The Blueprint in Contemporary Practice (French edition: Cyanotype, L’Art et La Technique); Salted Paper Printing: A Step-by-Step Manual Highlighting Contemporary Artists; Gum Printing: A Step-by-Step Manual Highlighting Artists and Their Creative Practice; and Gum Printing and Other Amazing Contact Printing Processes. Anderson is the editor of Focal Press/Routledge’s Contemporary Practices in Alternative Process Photography series and Professor of Photography at Montana State University.
