T57. Experimental 3D Art in Blender

 4 HOURS, 22/07 SATURDAY. 

In this workshop we will learn the basics of 3D art in Blender. We will build objects from primitives, and create materials for your models. We will go over some modifiers to streamline the process and experiment with particles. We will cover basic geometry nodes for nondestructive procedural modeling. We will create lighting, play with camera settings, and export final images. No need for prior Blender experience, except for some familiarity with the Blender environment and how to navigate inside the program.

+ Participants should watch on introductory tutorial online, be familiar and be able to navigate through Blender. I will provide a link to watch ahead of time. Bring a USB Drive to save your work.

T42. Experimental Animation in Blender

 4 HOURS, 21/07 FRIDAY

In this workshop we will cover the basics of animation tools in Blender. We will be using keyframes to animate objects and drawings and introduce some modifiers to streamline the process. We will use grease pencil objects to create 2D animations. We will create a conceptual animation piece in Blender using mixed media that you can bring to class. No need for prior animation experience. However, some knowledge of Blender is helpful. Please come with your own ideas and concepts so you can walk out with a short animation. Bring reference materials for drawing and your own photos for creating texture materials for fills and collages.

+ Participants should think ahead of the concept they want to use for their project and bring images that we can use in a collage and a USB Drive. Watch on introductory tutorial online, be familiar and be able to navigate through Blender. I will provide a link to watch ahead of time.

T61. Creative Coding in Blender

 4 HOURS, 22/07 SATURDAY 

In this workshop we will learn how to create and animate objects in Blender using python programming language. We will use the Scripting workspace to write code, python and system consoles to test, and Blender Python API to get help. We will cover the basics of loops and functions. We will touch on code refactoring and cleaning up your code. Most importantly we will learn how to automate repetitive tasks in your creative workflow and experiment in creating cool things with code. Finally we will experiment with Artificial Intelligence and how it can help us write code. No need for prior Blender or coding experience, except for some familiarity with the Blender environment and how to navigate inside the program.

+ Participants should watch on introductory tutorial online, be familiar and be able to navigate through Blender. I will provide a link to watch ahead of time. Bring a USB Drive to save your work.

T56. Arte híbrido: Inteligencia artificial, glitch y transfer analógico

 8 HOURS 22/07 SÁBADO

El taller tiene como objetivo generar una reflexión a partir de los cruces entre el arte generado con ayuda del ordenador y los procesos quirográficos (hechos a mano). Les participantes conocerán de manera básica y accesible, dos herramientas/procesos fundamentales para cuestionar y reflexionar la producción artificial de imágenes: el arte generado por AI (Artificial Intelligence, inteligencia artificial) y el Glitch. Desarrollarán conceptos y propondrán relaciones conceptuales personales. llevaremos esas imágenes digitales a lo analógico y artesanal.

+ Los participantes deben traer dispositivo digital de captura de imágenes (teléfono móvil o cámara fotográfica, 10 imágenes impresas, laptop/ordenador portátil con posibilidad de conectarse a internet, retazos de tela de algodón de cualquier grosor o transparencia (preferentemente colores claros), material para dibujar, pintar o escribir, carpeta con 20-30 imágenes seleccionadas para trabajar, retazos de tela vieja. Se recomiendan habilidades digitales básicas.

T03. Never a Faulty Gesture: Video Hacking Through Digitization

 4 HOURS, 19/07 WEDNESDAY

We will explore methods of using digitizing technologies from an analogue perspective and making digital tech work to our advantage. We will focus on errors, glitches, shifts of scanning perspective and adapting these hybrid techniques unspecific to video into a video approach. A second focus will be on teamwork and storytelling based on materials at hand, composing various stories, according to their interests and practices.

+ Participants have to bring their own laptop.

T14. Photography self-hack: the performing image

 8 HORAS, 20/07 THURSDAY

In this workshop we will explore methods of using optics, that are normally anatomical parts of photographic camera, as technological instruments for image hacking - prisms, mirrors, and use this in role-playing scenarios where the photographer becomes a performer every once in a while. Besides working with found-optics and recycled optics from military, technical or medical instruments, we will spend time making our own contraptions using mirrors, deforming plastics and reconverting objects at hand, which can function as optical devices. We will work in teams of two, who will switch their roles every now and then, to try as many approaches as the allocated time will allow. Ideally, we will work both on film or/and digital cameras. At the end of the day, we will have a few photo-series where the human exterior anatomy will be recomposed via optical reshuffling during the photographing process.

+ They should bring a digital camera (although a phone would do as well) and a laptop for sorting and editing. Also can bring film camera and 1 roll of B/W film.

T02. Augmented Reality and Stop Motion

 4 HOURS, 19/07 WEDNESDAY

This workshop will introduce you to the basics of augmented reality and will allow you to design a unique creation based on one of your photo-graphs and a short stop motion clip. Augmented reality allows you to add narrative and poetical content to your artworks. It brings your art-works to life by adding an animated layer that will be revealed through a mobile application. We will develop a scenario and then create the stop motion animation from cut and paste images using the green screen method. The stop motion is an animation technique using frame on frame from photos taken one after the other to constitute a video. This animation will be displayed as an overlay on your target image and will be activated with the Artivive application.

+ For this workshop, you will need to bring some of your own photographs (personal creation or family archives) printed on 8.5x11, portrait for-mat. This image can be in black and white or in color. We will select together the one that will serve as the main target and that will be the origin of the stop motion animation. To create the stop motion on a green screen, you will need to bring old magazines and/or printed images that you can cut out. You can also bring some colored cardboard and even printed words to cut out. Scissors, Xactos, masking tapes, and col-ored pencils are also needed. You must have a recent mobile phone, either an iPhone or an Android). You will need to have the following 2 free applications installed: Artivive and StopMotion. If you have a laptop, it is suggested that you bring it too.

T51. Augmented Reality and Stop Motion Triptych

This workshop will allow you to discover the basics of augmented reality and to design a triptych from your photographs and stop motion clips. Augmented reality allows you to add narrative and poetical content to your artworks. It puts your artworks into action by adding an animated layer that will be unveiled using a mobile application. We will create a scenario and then make the stop motion animation from cut and paste images using the green screen method. The stop motion is an animation technique using image on image from photos taken one after the other to subsequently constitute a video. A soundtrack will be also added to the stop motion. Each animation will be overlayed on your target image and will be activated with the Artivive application.

SESSION 01: For the first session, we will see some examples of stop motion animation that have made history and can inspire you in your creations. We will select your target images and then script a storyboard for a cohesive triptych. Before starting to create your animations, we will do an exercise to understand the possibilities and limitations of the Stop Motion and Artivive applications.

SESSION 02: For this session, we will pursue the design of Stop Motion on the green screen. When the animations are completed, we will inte-grate a soundtrack in the animation and then assemble the triptics in Artivive.

+ For this workshop, you will need to bring some of your own photographs (personal creation or family archives) printed on 8.5x11, portrait format. These images can be in black and white or in color. We will select together 3 images that will form the triptic that will be the main targets of our augmented reality. These images will also support the Stop Motion animation. To create the stop motion on a green background, you will need to provide several old magazines and/or printed images that you can cut out.
