What is and who organizes EXP.20?

The International Festival on Experimental Photography EXP.20 is organized by BADEM and it is possible thanks to the support of the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya and the cultural center Pati Llimona. Within the unique framework of the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, which has been at the service of photography in Catalonia for more than forty years, international experts and photography lovers will come together with the goal of creating a common space to share, learn and discuss experimental photography from its many sides: the creation of cameras, optics and films, processes of printing, intervention and production of copies, exhibitions and photobooks. Among the activities of the festival, there are panel discussions, presentations of projects and experiences, workshops and four collective and individual exhibitions. The program of the festival and the participants will be announced on our official accounts. We invite photographers of all levels interested in experimental photography in a broad sense.

Who can take part in the festival?

Photographers of all levels of expertise interested in experimental photography. In order to participate you have to pay the registration fee and, if you want to, send a dossier with photographs. The dossier will be examined and might be selected for an individual or collective exhibition.

When and where will it take place?

The Festival will take place between 17th Friday (from 16:00) until 19th Sunday January 2020 in several areas of the city of Barcelona: the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, the Civic Center Pati Llimona and bar 33 /45.

Is the registration fee the same for all participants?

Yes. All participants must pay the registration fee, which gives access to all festival activities. The price does not include food or lodging. Since 1st June, Rodamón hostels offers a 20% discount to festival participants who use the code EXP.20-2020 when booking a room on their website for stays between 6th and 26th January 2020.

Can I send photographs or a project that has already been submitted or even published?

Yes. The festival aims to spread and share the work of experimental photographers at different points of their careers. In this festival, those who exhibit their works are not renowned photographers but the participants themselves, in order to get to know each other’s work and learn from each other’s experience.

Is it possible to sell our products?

Yes, but only if they are our own productions. In the festival we will have a space where participants can sell small items (books, film rolls, fanzines, cameras, postcards) at no cost or commission. Send an email to the organization to check space availability.

What is the official language of the festival?

The seminars will be in English and Spanish. Since there will be participants from many countries (among others: United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy), it is likely that the language of the exchanges will be English.

How are the activities financed?

As you can see in the page about transparency, the festival is financed only with money from the participants, since there are no public or private subsidies.
